about smart nutrition

Have you ever considered the possibility that you’ve lost the joy of eating?

You probably don’t think so. We all love to eat, right?

But that’s not what I asked.

Think carefully… do you still take joy in eating?

Or do you feel guilty about enjoying certain foods?

Do you make up for those guilty pleasures by forcing yourself to eat other foods that you feel like you SHOULD eat in order to feel less guilty?

Are you too concerned with numbers on a scale, or numbers on a calorie counting app, to really find joy in your food?

Or maybe you’re so concerned with getting in the latest “superfood” and deciphering the latest study reported in the news, and food has become an area that’s too complicated to truly enjoy.

There’s an entire internet full of crazy information, which is why I’m here, your friendly, scientifically-educated Registered Dietitian: to create a place where you can breathe a sigh of relief.

Grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and get comfy. Prepare to rediscover the joy of eating!

If you’re tired of being hassled by fear-mongering, “stop eating these 4 fruits, they’re making you fat!” type of articles, this is the place for you. Here you’ll find helpful, science-based information that will work against the guilt you may have experienced over food.

As one of my favourite Registered Dietitians, Ellyn Satter, says “when the joy goes out of eating, nutrition suffers.”

Fear and guilt have no place in the kitchen. When you replace fear with confidence and guilt with self-worth, your health will skyrocket!

When you put the joy back in eating and cooking, you look forward to your meals, snacks, and yes, even family gatherings and other social events! You no longer fear you will lose control over your eating. You no longer need to hide your eating in the pantry.

My aim is to make your eating more enjoyable. I do this first and foremost by teaching you ways to improve your relationship with food. A happy relationship is the key to a healthy relationship! Check this article out to get started on techniques to enjoy all food more, which conveniently helps many people to also eat less food overall.

I also provide practical ways to make it easier for you to prepare nourishing meals for you (and your family). Batch cooking plans help you take the stress out of meal planning. Check out the gallery of ideas here! You’ll get a grocery list and master instructions. Follow those and at the end of the day you’ll have a bunch of meals you can refrigerate and reheat on a moment’s notice!

If you have a baby, I have a heart for helping you feed. I’ve worked in the NICU with preemies and other newborns who needed nutrition help! I’ve also worked extensively with new parents in my local public health system. I contributed as a nutrition expert to the panel of professionals who worked to revise the Manitoba Health Guide for starting babies on solids, and I have presented on the WHO growth charts.

Since I love babies so much I’ve created a free membership for parents who are starting their babies on solids. It’s called the Infant Insider. Sign up here!

Thank you for making your way to this little corner of the internet. I hope you feel right at home here. To stay connected, make sure to sign up for my newsletter!

Lots of love,
