activity: choosing a new vegetable

Choose a vegetable that your child has never tasted before. Here are examples of some lesser-known vegetables:

  • Kohlrabi
  • Rapini
  • Okra
  • Parsnip

Now choose a vegetable that your child already knows and likes (hopefully your child does like at least one vegetable!)

Take the two vegetables and prepare them both in three separate ways. Some different preparation methods include:

  • Baked
  • Steamed
  • Boiled
  • Pan fried
  • Roasted
  • Raw-bite size pieces
  • Raw-shredded

Fill out the following table:

Now do a taste-test with your child! For each vegetable, order the preparation method from most to least liked.
